PI/PTFE Composite (Rulon)

Rulon (PTFE + PI composite) — self-lubricating PTFE-based composite with dramatically improved creep resistance vs unfilled PTFE. For precision instrument bearings, slide rails and dynamic seals requiring zero lubrication.

Description

Rulon (trade name, Saint-Gobain) is a family of PTFE composite materials filled with glass fibre, carbon fibre, PI fibres or other reinforcements to overcome PTFE cold-flow. Rulon J (FDA compliant) and Rulon LR (low outgassing) are the most common grades. Outstanding dry friction coefficient (µ 0.04-0.15) with excellent chemical resistance and dimensional stability under load — eliminating the primary weakness of unfilled PTFE.
