M3 Class 2 (HS6-5-3) -- higher-vanadium HSS than M2. HRC 64-67. Better wear resistance than M2 for cutting abrasive materials (glass fibre composites, hardened steel) where M2 wears too fast but M35/M42 is not cost-justified.
HS6-5-3 (EN 1.3344 / AISI M3 Class 2) per EN ISO 4957. V (2.7-3.2%) gives significantly more V carbides than M2 (1.9%) -- 30-40% better abrasive wear resistance. Toughness slightly lower than M2. Standard for end mills for FRP/GRP composites, form cutters for hardened components and precision taps for stainless steel where M2 wears too fast.
