EN AW-5049 (Marine-Grade General Purpose Al-Mg)

EN AW-5049 -- moderate-Mg general-purpose marine and structural aluminium. Rm 220-270 MPa, good corrosion resistance and weldability at lower cost than 5083. For boat hulls, general marine fabrication and structural sheet where 5083-level strength is not required.

Opis

EN AW-5049 (AlMg2Mn0.8) per EN 573-3. Mg (1.6-2.5%) gives a practical mid-tier 5xxx alloy -- better strength than 5052 (1.8-2.8% Mg overlaps but 5049 adds Mn for grain refinement and formability), good weldability and marine corrosion resistance, at lower cost than the higher-Mg 5083/5086. Standard for general marine fabrication, boat hulls in the small-to-medium size range, and structural sheet metal work where full 5083 strength is not required.

5049 vs 5052 vs 5083 for marine use
5052: excellent corrosion resistance, good formability, Rm ~230 MPa H32, the most common general marine sheet. 5049: similar strength tier to 5052 with slightly different alloying balance, regionally common alternative. 5083: highest strength of the practical marine 5xxx grades, for larger vessels and structural marine applications. For small craft and general marine fabrication, 5049 and 5052 serve essentially the same role.
